Mastering Your First Impression

How many times have you heard the expression, You never get a second chance at a first impression?

This is true whether you like it or not. From the moment a person first meets you, they form strong assumptions based solely on the way you look and present yourself. I realize that this negates all of those wonderful things you have going for you on the inside. But the reality is, my friend, a person meets the outside first THEN the inside

In my experience, when a person first meets you, you will be slotted into one of three categories:

1) Your impression is average (this is probably most of you). People will not form a strong impression of you. There is potential for you to be forgotten and fade into the crowd of everyone else. However, you are deemed suitable for continued interaction. Hopefully you can make up for lost ground in the long-run.

2) You make a negative impression. The person who you have just met decides to keep communication with you at a minimum. It will be very difficult, if not impossible, to build a relationship with this person.

3) You make strong first impression. Wherever you go, people take notice. You are admired and looked upon as a valuable contact. At this point, people will work for your attention.

Stop. Imagine walking into a room and meeting yourself for the first time. Which category would you put yourself into?

If youre not in that third category, youre not doing enough. Why shortchange yourself?

We consistently meet guys who have great personalities and have a lot going for them. These guys have a lot to offer women, but they simply have no idea how to present that in a powerful, attractive way. Mastering this would instantly help them feel better about themselves, and would fill them with confidencedramatically increasing their likelihood of success!

First impressions are basically formed through three basic channels, they are: clothing, body language, and vocal tonality.

Do you want to make good first impressions? Do you want women to notice you, approach you, and even chase you? Want to have a successful career and social life? If so, then pay attention to these three things... and own the power of your first impression!

The good news is that these three qualities are easily improved and you can start working on them immediately.

Can you even picture someone as dominant as Arnold Schwarzenegger or JFK doing this? Not in a million years!

Another trait men like this have in common is all their movement is deliberate and confident.

Youd never see a powerful CEO making erratic gestures like biting his nails, fidgeting, or using broad hand movements to articulate his speech. Stay calm, cool, and collected.

Avoid doing these things: always placing your hands in your pockets, constantly fixing your hair, tugging at your collar, checking your watch every minute, and scratching.

Be precise as a lab scientist when using body language.

Lastly, your voice. Do you stutter in situations where there is the slightest bit of pressure? Or do you project a manly, confident tone delivered slowly and smoothly.

A weak voice is a certain sign of low self-esteem. Speak up and make yourself heard!

When making a first impression, remember to smile. This helps your vibe become friendly, confident and approachable. People are more likely to want to talk to you if they sense they will be received well.

The film portrays all the emotions - the ups and downs, the hopes and dreams - experienced by the main character as she takes on this monumental and spontaneous adventure. In short, Under The Tuscan Sun is an interesting, and oftentimes hilarious, film that tackles the constant travails of life in general

Thirty-something San Francisco writer Frances (Diane Lane) spirals into a deep depression when her ten-year marriage ends in divorce. Sideways star Sandra Oh makes a name for herself playing the role of Patti, a good friend of Frances. Despite her appearance in a dozen plus films, Under The Tuscan Sun is the first time I can recall seeing Sandra Oh in a movie, and I can remember that she really made an impression. She has a distinctive onscreen presence, something unique that I can't quite identify, and perhaps this contributes in some small way to the current success she's experiencing.

Meanwhile, Diane Lane creates a likeable and relatable character in Frances. Viewers will have no problem relating to divorcee's struggles within her personal life, and even the most pessimistic and dour of movie goers must give her credit for making such a bold move. As such, Under The Tuscan Sun manages to create one of those rare films which isn't so much plot-driven, nor focused on the personality of a monumental life. The film simply serves as a good night's entertainment (and a break, if one is needed, from the typical big money, high body count Hollywood productions). There are other differences in wedding customs. In Russia, the bride and groom stay attached to each other the entire time they are at the reception. They literally hold hands the entire time.

My wife got extremely upset with me each time I would get up and leave her alone for a moment at our wedding. One time, I was trying to help some elderly relatives of mine get some food. After once or twice, I gave up and sat next to her.

We did not circulate around and talk with people who came to the wedding, as is the custom in America.

In Russia, each person approaches the wedding table and offers a toast. You must drink a toast with each person who comes to the table. By the end of the reception, you are dead drunk on your feet.

No one came to the table and offered a toast. My wife thought that this was rude of my guests. My guests thought we were rude for not going around to greet everyone personally.

Russians wear the wedding rings on the right hand, as opposed to Americans that wear their weddings rings on the left hand.

When my wife travels to her homeland, she switches her wedding ring from her left hand to her right hand; otherwise everyone will think that I am a widow rather than married.

In Russia, it is the custom that other male guests may capture your wife and hold her for ransom. The bridegroom must entreat the other guests to help him gather enough money to ransom his bride. The capture and ransom are somewhat tongue in cheek, but are real enough that you wont get your wife back without paying the ransom.

We tried to have a similar type of event at our wedding, but none of the American guests understood what was going on. After her capture, we passed the hat to raise the ransom money, which substituted as a kind of money dance.

After we passed the hat three times to raise the ransom money, I had to sing for my bride.

My wifes name is Aksana, and I adapted the Richie Valens song, Oh, Donna as a song I could sing about my missing girl, Aksana. Okay, its a reach, but it worked somewhat. However, the whole thing came off like a skit in Our Gang.

Drinking was minimal at our wedding. No one needed a liver transplant after the reception, so by Russian standards, it was a failure.

My parents are elderly and wanted to leave before dark so they could drive home.

They cant see to drive at night anymore. My wife begged them not to leave the reception so early before the other guests left.

My parents felt they had to leave so they werent a danger on the road. My wife felt as though my family abandoned us.

Russians Can Be Stubborn And Dogmatic In Their Thinking

As Lynn Visson's "Wedded Strangers" explains:

Russians are completely convinced of their opinion. They see no reason to change. Americans are taught to exchange ideas or opinions. Russians are dogmatic. Everything is right or wrong. There are no shades of gray.

Trying to discuss issues with my wife was like talking to a wall sometimes. She had one point of view and she wasnt willing to change her mind.

I tried different tactics. Using logic. Approaching the subject from another point of view. Suggesting alternatives. Sometimes there was no point in discussing the subject. She just wasnt going to change her mind.

Sometimes in my frustration, I would put my head against the wall and move my arms and legs like I was walking. I would yell out, Turn right! Turn right! But I would continue to try to walk forward into the wall like the Energizer Bunny.

I would say to my wife, That is exactly like talking to you. You keep walking forward regardless of the fact that you are walking right into the wall. You refuse to look at things from another point of view.

I would throw my hands up and cry out, Rock heads!

You can tell a Russian, but you can't tell him much!

When we would have arguments she would say, I never help her. I always do things that I want to do. I never do things she wants me to do. Black or white. Always or never. Never a shade of gray.

Do you notice the arguments are always about what she thinks I should be doing. They never are about what I think she should be doing. Its always about manipulating my behavior. Its never about changing her behavior.

Of course, she says thats because she always does the right thing and puts the needs of the family first. She says she needs to help me make the right decision.

She needs to tell me what the right thing to do is, when I make the wrong decision. Of course, the right decision is always from her perspective.

I love my wife.
